Growing up, I was an athlete. I played sports year round. Hockey was my main sport, but I played a few others. I wasn’t artistic or theatrical, I just played sports. That was my hobby and I spent hours each week devoting time to it. I knew I didn’t want to play after high school, so I started coaching. I love coaching and teaching little 3 and 4 year olds how to skate. My program got cancelled a few years ago and every other coaching job took more time than my real job would allow.
So, now I’m stuck with a pair of skates that I never use and zero answers to the question “do you have any hobbies?” As an adult, how do you answer that question? The definition of hobby is “an activity done regularly in one’s leisure time for pleasure.” I decided to make a list of things I do in my leisure time.
Love to travel, wish I did it more.
Enjoy cocktails – probably should enjoy them less.
Am capable of knitting a scarf, but find it boring.
Go on ski trips once a year (twice if I’m lucky).
Watch Bravo and other trashy reality TV shows to feel better about myself unwind.
Read books on Saturday mornings with coffee.
Eat all the time.
Write something on this blog each night that usually doesn’t make sense.
Edit said blog in the morning during my coffee break.
Watch the news and get sad.
Have a Dance party each morning while getting ready.
Sleep.
Pretend to enjoy running, but get really excited when I actually hit one of my goals.
I guess those are my hobbies. Pretty classy. Maybe I should take up ballroom dancing or learning a new language. Here is the awesome list I’m going to start exploring Hobby Hour – Hobby List. In the meantime, pass me a Dos Equis, I’ve got some housewives to catch up on and a race to run tomorrow evening that I’m not really prepared for. Plus, I love these hockey pictures of my husband – way cuter than mine.
Here is my update for 30 miles in 30 days because I need you to hold me accountable (I’m talking to you Nikki.) 9.08 miles so far. More running next week and less walking.
If you have any hobby suggestions, let me know.
9 miles! That's so awesome!
Running and reading are pretty much my only hobbies…I am boring!
I also drink:)Idk if that counts…
You're doing awesome! I'm hoping to start running/jogging more next week too! Keep up the great work!
Haha, I'm right there with you! Pour me some wine or beer and let me watch Bravo all night. Love that hobby!
I read, cook…is cleaning a hobby? Good Lord.
I have the same problem about no adult hobbies. Ummmm I like to sit down?? Sometimes when people ask me my hobbies I lie & say something stupid like tennis. I have never played tennis in my life. I have no idea what I would do if they asked me to play some time. Fake an injury?
If eating and drinking burned calories, I'd be a model. Fortunately for us, we run/workout and THAT burns calories. It's all balanced out right? Dos Equis is my choice beer as well so cheers to us getting some miles in for May!
I must say – I think drinking with friends is the best hobby I have too… aka last night.
But I mean, we also have prepping for our boy band concert… that counts too right?
I love hockey- watching it that is! I am not coordinated enough to skate.
I love dance parties! 🙂
My husband told me I needed a hobby. Taking care of his ass is a full-time hobby. Yeah, I have no idea what adults do for hobbies. Blogging I guess? Trying to learn how to sew? I don't know.
Great job on the miles!!
I've never played hockey, it's not very popular here because it doesn't usually get cold enough. But I love to ice skate, it's so fun! Dancing is my FAV workout, have you tried Zumba? Great job on your miles! I need to step it up!
i hate when people ask me what my hobby is…i don't know what to say. (although having a dance party by yourself is FOR SURE a hobby.)
Hi, I found your blog through the linkup! I used to skate as a kid but my parents threw away my skates because they hate me (kidding). Lucky you still have yours. I'm into refinishing furniture…and blogging. Blogging is a hobby, right?
My husband would kill to play hockey year round. (Really, kill.)
Way to go with those miles, I'm super jealous! I need to get my ass moving.
Just found your blog and I'm so glad I did, you seem awesome 🙂
Stop by and say hi sometime,

I have dance parties ALL the time (the best). I had to find hobbies when I quit my job and it was the worst when family and friends kept asking me: What do you do ALL day? Super annoying. That's why I picked up photography. I try not to suck too bad…
Awesome you played hockey! My husband plays in his spare time… and drinks two pitchers of beer before any game. Cuz that's safe.
