It’s been a while since I’ve checked in on the Twitter trends and so much is happening in the news each week that this could be a 3x a week post.

#RIPAretha

Aretha Franklin passed away this AM after being moved to Hospice last week. She’s a legend for her beautiful voice, but I urge you all to read more about the role she played in the Civil Rights Movement.

“She called for respect, as a woman, as a businessperson, as an artist of excellence, as a reliable stalwart in human and civil rights. Sometimes, you need a Queen. If the cause is just, the Queen answers the call and always has. And she never told a soul. She never said ‘I did this’ or ‘I did that.’ She just did.” – Shahida Mausi  (from the Detroit Free Press article linked here)

#nationalrelaxationday

I mean, where would we be without made up holidays? This was enough reason for me to catch up some Bravo last night and relax on my couch. No shame.

#freepress

I’m so sick of people being afraid for their second amendment rights and following that up with calling the media “fake news” and harassing reporters. If you’re going to use the Constitution in your arguments to support the turd in office, make sure you at least have read through the whole thing and understand it. I plan on spending some time reading through the editorials from the different newspapers today – make sure you take a minute to do the same. The cartoon below is from an older article from a little news outlet in Kansas about knowing your freedoms, check it out here

#primaryelections

Minnesota’s primary election was on Tuesday of this week along with a few other states in the country. I’m ashamed to say it was my first primary election that I’ve voted in. Not for lack of trying though. With our moving date and lack of proper ID, I wasn’t able to vote in the primaries two years ago. Never again my friends. I researched every candidate and even contacted a few local peeps directly with questions. There were a few things that didn’t go the way I wanted, but I’m still pretty pumped at the women running in Minnesota this year. You have 81 days until the election. Get registered, get involved and talk about it a lot with people. It is so important. Go to vote.org if you need more information.

#NationalRollerCoasterDay

Again with these holidays. My favorite roller coaster is Expedition Everest at Animal Kingdom. The Yeti gets me every time. Who knows what I’m talking about? It has been 5 years since we’ve been there, but I definitely still think it takes the cake. Read a flashback post about Animal Kingdom and who we got to meet here.

#charlottesville

It has been one year since that horrific scene last year. I wrote about all the emotions in this post last year. This year, I’m still just as fired up. I’ve channeled it into much more productive things and I’m always looking for more ways to help, share my voice and spread the love.

#NationalTellAJokeDay

Joke 1: I’m the size of an elephant, but I weigh nothing. What I am?

Answer: An elephant’s shadow

Joke 2: What do you say to scare bees? (this one is courtesy of my niece)

Give me your best guess below. It’s a classic.
