I shared this Instagram post last night. I rolled my eyes at my own caption when I hit post. I see people recapping weekends like this and I’m usually part jealous/part skeptical. People can’t really have a whole weekend filled with productive chores, healthy meals, exercise, quality time with a partner and plenty of time for the things we love – all while feeling extremely recharged at the end of it.

Fine. My meals weren’t the healthiest. But, we achieved full hygge this weekend and it was just what the doctor ordered.

Haven’t heard of the magical word “Hygge”? You can catch up by clicking here and then come back.

We have been doing a lot of traveling and I wouldn’t trade those experiences for anything. In all of our efforts to keep up with everyone, we have done our best to fill up our weekends with lots of fun events and meet ups. After hosting guests, traveling or having super busy weekends since early August, we had nothing going on this weekend other than a 2 year old birthday party Sunday afternoon.

Our Friday night started with 5 PM pajamas, Mac & Cheese and some cranberry apple mules. We played board games (this one is our favorite) and watched Crazy Rich Asians (which was wonderful.)

I woke up early on Saturday and made a giant pot of coffee and settled in to read for a while. We pulled out the waffle maker and made some hot waffles mid morning. We got all of our Autumn Cleaning done. I think I’ll share a whole different post about this later. Once our cleaning blitz was done, we did yoga, cleaned ourselves up and decided to go celebrate our productive morning.

The snow was falling just a little bit, but it seemed extra busy out. We made the trek to Herbivorous Butcher in NE to try one of their already made sandwiches. If you haven’t heard of this place on the food network, it’s a brother/sister venture to make non meat meats. Everything they have is vegan and we haven’t tried anything yet that we didn’t love. This time it was an Italian sandwich plus we stocked up on their “turkey” for lunches this week.

We tried to head to a new brewery after that snack, but everything was super busy. We ended up at our neighborhood spot for some afternoon beers. We spent our Saturday night watching Funny Farm and doing a puzzle that we’ve had for a while and going to bed at 10:30.

Sunday morning was a lot of the same without as much of the cleaning and more of the reading and relaxing. We did fit in more yoga. There was a vegan food truck gathering at Lake Monster Brewing, so we went to get more Herbivorous Butcher – trust me, they have a buffalo “chicken” sandwich that is one of my favorite meals ever. We made a trip to the bookstore to get this book for book club.

Sunday afternoon was the only social commitment we had all weekend and it was a 2 year old’s Sesame Street birthday party. We got to hang out with some family, our nieces and watch the chaos for a couple hours before heading home to watch SNL and an episode of Ozark and then an early bedtime.

This weekend was so needed for us. Things have been so fun and so busy. I just needed some quiet space. Being able to clear some things out of our house helps a ton as well. The less we have, the easier it is for me to find calm. If I tried this every weekend, I’d be so bored because I love getting to hang out with friends and see new places. But maybe I could plan one of these every few months to hit reset.

If only I could figure out how to go into Monday mornings without the news headlines crushing my soul, without feeling so overwhelmed immediately by emails, without the stress of realizing we didn’t make a plan for groceries or lunches this week and all the other crap that comes with the alarm clock. If only I could figure that out…

How do you find hygge in the weekday craziness? Do you ever treat yourself to a weekend like this?
