It’s been two months since I’ve posted on this blog. But I’ve recently found a lot more time in my schedule. The brief update on life is that we are currently sheltering in place in San Diego in a small guesthouse. Our dog sits up and down the West Coast have all been cancelled and we have no idea where we will be on May 1. It’s terrifying and strange, but after a year of traveling, we are trying to embrace the slow life for at least the next 30 days.
I’m going to work on sharing more here. I have so many photos that I’m organizing and I want to find a balance between posting on our travel website and just getting back to regular life. In the meantime, I’m going to jump onboard with Anne’s monthly link up because it’s one of my favorites.
So, let’s look at what I’m currently…
Sharing the things I’m comfort baking as much as possible. The guesthouse we are staying in shares a backyard space with the home owners and one long term tenant. We’ve all been sheltering in place for three weeks now and that includes avoiding one another, but we have had a few conversations with many feet of separation. They are all wonderful and so I’ve been making extra cookies and muffins to share in sanitized containers left on their steps. It’s been a fun challenge to use the minimal ingredients we have. Lemon Meltaways were the most recent creation thanks to the abundance of fresh lemons from the tree here.
Writing recaps of our travels on The Tumbling Nomads website. Most recently, I shared about our time in Bratislava and Renting a Campervan in Australia. It feels weird to write about traveling in this current environment, but it’s also a little comforting. Also, I’m writing down five things I’m grateful for every morning to start my day with positivity.
Wishing that people would comply with the shelter in place rules. I can’t understand why there are states that haven’t put these restrictions into effect. It’s frustrating to see the country so unorganized at a time that people need consistent and reliable information. No one is going to escape this completely, but if we can all just stay at home, it will help.
Investigating Joe Exotic and the insane cast of characters from Tiger King. We consumed all the episodes in three days and now I’m wondering if we will be able to find something else that takes our minds off the current situation like that shit show did.
Buying more groceries than I have in a long time. The trips to the store have been every 10 days or so to restock on produce. We’ve gotten pretty creative with substitutes on recipes and making sure we use every morsel of food. My favorite has been making boxes of Mac & Cheese and adding whatever vegetables we have left over from other recipes.
How are you keeping yourself occupied during this time at home?
